History of the Teddy Bear

Be Mine Bear

So the story goes: The 26th president of the United States, the suave Theodore Roosevelt, was in the south due to a border conflict between Mississippi and Louisiana. I’m not sure who won the border dispute although I should! The president, nicknamed Teddy, went on a bear hunting trip in Mississippi during this time. While on the hunt, President Roosevelt and his hunting buddies came across a wounded bear cub. The President ordered the bear be shot and put out of it’s misery. The Washington Post got wind of this a cartoon editorial of an angry, mean bear, drawn by Clifford Berryman. Clifford later redrew the bear as a cute, cuddly bear cut sitting next to Teddy Roosevelt. The story and drawing was so popular, someone decided to make a stuffed toy that resembled the cute bear cub, and the Teddy Bear has been around ever since. That year was 1903 so the Teddy Bear is over 100 years old!!

Nice info going here! Interesting… Nothing really beats the combination of love and keepsakes along with the knowledge of where the keepsakes came from (not to mention the history). Overall, amazing results and very thoughtful.
